The RLSM recognizes individuals who believe the legacy of Stevenson has a vital place in our future and have expressed their support through a bequest or other planned gift.
These gifts can offer significant tax benefits to you or your estate while providing critical support to the RLS Museum.
Planned giving options include
- Bequests
- Stocks and Securities
- Charitable Gift Annuities
- Charitable Remainder Trusts
- Retirement Assets (Life Insurance and Real Estate).
If you have any questions, the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum’s Executive Director would be happy to discuss these options with you and/or your personal financial planner.
Does your company match its employees donations? Make your donation count for DOUBLE with an Employee Matching Fund.
For a complete list of companies that match donations ask your Human Resources Department!
For any donation of gifts-in-kind, the fair-market-value is tax-deductible. The RLSM will provide a letter stating what the gift was and when it was received by the Museum.
The donor should keep this letter as a receipt of the gift in case they are asked to produce it by the IRS. We do not appraise value.
Gifts-in-kind include items or services that we can use for events, programs, and in the office.
Examples of desired goods/services
- Event planning services

In memoriam gifts commemorate special occasions or celebrate a loved one while honoring their memory and commitment to history and the arts.
On your behalf, the Museum will send the honoree or their family a letter informing them of your thoughtful generosity.
Please provide a mailing address or email address along with your gift and any specific instructions.
If you have a book, papers, artwork, or other objects your would like the RLSM to consider for the collection please contact the Museum’s Executive Director via email. Because some objects require careful preparation, talking with us will ensure that the Museum can accept your gift. The Director will guide you through the process and provide answers to appraisal and tax questions.
Please note that the RLS Museum has a Collections Management Policy which specifies the type of materials which can be added to the permanent collection; however donations not joining the permanent collection may still be accepted.
The RLSMuseum is unable to provide appraisals of your art or artifacts. Please find a certified appraiser near you by visiting the Appraisers Association website.
