STEVENSON AWARD

For Service to The RLS Museum and Community of St. Helena

"We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend." - Robert Louis Stevenson

A beloved member of the community of St. Helena, Don has allowed his many passions to support a myriad of individuals, programs, and organizations throughout our community. From instilling an importance of physical fitness, to showing his support for local youth leagues, and supporting the organizations from which everyone benefits, Don’s impact can be felt by people throughout St. Helena.

Don’s primary passion for many years has been the importance of physical fitness. Frequently found on the tennis courts, Don has shared his passion with others, developing athletic programs in tennis, basketball, and running. These programs, which include the “Over the Hill Gang”, a basketball team of 40+, and the Rotarians for Running and Fitness, have gone on to inspire physical health and fitness in people not only in St. Helena, but around the country.

Alongside his many accomplishments, Don continues to be a steadfast supporter of the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum from its inception. Convincing founders Norman and Charlotte Strouse to house the museum collection in a facility alongside the library in 1979, he was instrumental in the opening of the current Museum and continued his support of Stevenson by serving as Board Chair for many years. Don has been an essential part of the “crew” of the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum, sharing his passion and enthusiasm for this treasured author and museum for decades as our “Head Pirate.”

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum we are thrilled to honor Don Fraser as the first recipient of the Stevenson Award for Service to the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum and the Community of St. Helena.
